Michael Shapiro Conducting

STAGE AND SCREEN

Michael Shapiro conducts The Chappaqua Orchestra this season in concerts devoted to music by Berlioz, Glass, and others inspired by Edgar Allan Poe (on the 200th anniversary of his birth), the annual New Castle Community Sing, and the Brahms Double Concerto with soloists Tim Fain, violin, and Edward Arron, cello.

Important performances this coming season of Michael Shapiro's music include the California premiere of Roller Coaster for orchestra at the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music conducted by Marin Alsop where Mr. Shapiro will be one of the composers-in-residence; Frankenstein-The Movie Score will receive its Midwest premiere in Wisconsin by the Beloit Janesville Symphony, Robert Tomaro, conductor; and Mr. Fain will premiere the new Second Violin and Piano Sonata as well as Mr. Shapiro's Peace Variations, both of which will be recorded on Albany Records.

Michael Shapiro's film scores for a new NBC television crime show will air prime-time nationally in the Spring.
